Free museum day!

Every fall, the Smithsonian sponsors an event to get people to visit local museums. This day is a perfect opportunity to visit all the exhibits you've been waiting to see for some time. On this day, there is no entry fee for the participating museums so you can save a few dollars and have a chance to see some interesting exhibits. It usually falls on a Saturday in late September so if you are visiting around these times, make sure to check it out!

Bus tours!

As for almost every large tourist destination in the US, you can find here tons of bus tours. My favorite are the ones where you pay for a pass and can hop on or off as often as you'd like during the valid period of your pass. That way, not only do you benefit from the bus tour but it serves you as transport to get around the city as well. The bus company will provide you with a schedule and list of stops and they usually pass by pretty often. It is pretty convenient and will save you on the cost of public transit or taxis.
Sit back and enjoy the ride!

Washington Monument

It seems like we've all heard of it but we haven't heard about it!!! What is the Washington Monument anyways?
The Washington Monument is an obelisk that sits near the National Mall. It is the tallest standing stone obelisk in the world. It was initially built to commemorate the first president, General George Washington.
If you look at the Washington skyline, it is also the tallest structure.
Go check it out!

Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals are the local baseball team. They play in the MLB and actually used to be called the Expos before they moved to Washington from Montreal. Baseball is the American past-time by tradition and there are a lot of baseball fans in America. If you're in the city during the MLB season, make sure to check the schedule as the team might be in town. Watching a game on a nice sunny day can be quite fun and entertaining for the whole family.

Among the thousands of things to see and do in Washington sits (literally) the Lincoln Memorial. This is an icon of the American Nation and should be seen by every American. Make sure you go check it out!!!
There is something inspiring about this great man and the monument in his honor. While you're at it, take a few pictures!!!

Smithsonian Institution

This is a government-run institution that maintains and runs most of the official museums. Since they are partially funded by the government, they have a number of great free collections that are open to the public and free of charge. The most popular in the Smithsonian collection is the National Museum of Natural History. This can be found in the National Mall. It is actually pretty big and very impressive. Quite educational and great for the kids too! Check it out!

Washinton D.C in the summertime

Washington weather in the summer is most pleasant. I'd probably say it is the best time of the year to visit. It's just really nice to walk around the city in warm weather. There are also tons of activities to do in the summer months. What are your favorite things to do in the summer?

Travelling to D.C. some time soon? Here is some useful info!

Washington D.C., our great nation’s capital, city of cherry blossoms, and more museums located in a mall (the National Mall) than anywhere else in the world. While every school child knows that DC is the home of our federal government and numerous monuments, many miss out on the blustering nightlife when they make their first school trip to DC-opting instead to sit on Abe Lincoln’s lap in hopes of amazing President’s Day gifts. D.C. has a blustering night life and a culture of its own and is also known as, ‘The District’ and ‘Capital of the World’ and has a lot to do.

Founded on July 16, 1790 Washington D.C. is its own territory situated between Virginia and Maryland. While it is the 8th largest Metro-area in the nation, its status as a territory means that the city is not represented in Congress or the Senate. In 1973, DC got the right to form a city council to rule the district separate from the federal government, in order to make local decisions. Some say three’s company, but for this metro area three is the magic number for electoral votes in Presidential College.
For those visiting DC, they may choose to supplement extracurricular activities with more serious endeavors of culture and history. Some of the most historical landmarks can be found in the DC metropolitan area and include:

• White House
• National Mall
• Washington monument
• Smithsonian
• Lincoln Memorial
• Library of Congress
• Ford’s Theatre
• Jefferson Memorial
• Supreme Court
• Arlington national cemetery
• Pentagon
• US Capitol building
• National Archives

The District also has more than its fair share of night live and events to keep all of the locals and visitors mixing, mingling and dancing the night away. If watching others exert their physical prowess is more your style, DC offers various professional sports teams including: Baseball (Washington Nationals), Basketball (Washington Wizards), and Football (Washington Redskins). Along with that, DC is also known for their wild dance clubs and bar scene, and popular activities including billiards and blues. As the cold wind of winter opens up to milder months, outside concerts are a big hit as well as concerts at the Verizon center. DC also likes their parades, shows and festivals.
